Hasaacas Makes another Historic Leap with WAFU Zone B Women’s Championship

Hasaacas Ladies FC will open another history page with the participation in the WAFU Zone B Women’s Championship when the tournament finally kick-starts on July 17, 2021, at Stade Champroux, Abidjan the capital of Cote D’Ivoire.

In what has been achieved under a challenging time due to the emergence of the global pandemic, Covid-19 and the stress in administrative works and on the field issues Hasaacas Ladies has pounded the surface to be the first women’s team to represent Ghana at an international tournament – based on the 2019 Ghana Football Association Normalization Committee’s title.

Despite the advent of Covid-19, the Women’s team sailed through the 2020/2021 Women’s Football Season with a historic double thumping Ampem Darkoa Ladies 6-0 to secure both the Women’s Premier League and the Women’s FA Cup over two legs.

Furthermore, the Club’s representation of Ghana is a new feat in the history of Ghana football reminding everyone about the achievement of the men’s team in 1982 which was led by the late Legendary Herbert Addo and ably assisted by Club Legend PSK Paha. PSK Paha later became the Head Coach in 1985 and led Hasaacas to beat both Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak to win the FA Cup and the Super Cup.

En route to the WAFU Clubs Cup feat, Sekondi Hasaacas FC beat Mighty Blackpool of Sierra Leone 4–3 on aggregate in the intermediary round otherwise known now as quarter-finals and secured a 3–1 victory over Mali’s Stade Malien before securing a 1–0 victory over Nigeria’s Spartans of Owerri to birth the Club’s first international trophy.

Sekondi Hasaacas FC in 1982, Tema GHAPOHA in 1997 and Cornerstone FC, Kumasi in 1987 are the previous winners of the tournament from Ghana before its cancellation in 2017.

If Hasaacas Ladies FC step foot at the Ivorian capital on July 17, 2021 against Nigeria’s Rivers Angels’ FC, it makes the Sekondi Hasaacas FC the first football brand from the country and West Africa(alongside group mates AS Police de Niamey) to have produced participants from both genders to participate in WAFU organized competition.

Hasmal Ladies also has in-sight topping this up with a qualification to the CAF Women’s Champions League which happens later this year at Egypt and will double up as the only football brand on the continent to have produced a representation in both genders in a CAF organized event.

The men’s team went as far as the semifinals stage of the 1981 African Cup Winners’ Cup now known as the CAF Confederation Cup. Hasaacas had a walkover Equatorial Guinea side CS Nere in the first round and over two legs beat DRC side, TP Mazembe 2–1 and 1–0(3–1 on aggregate), another firm 3–2 aggregate win over Zambian side Power Dynamos FC before succumbing to a semifinal exit in a 4–4 aggregate defeat to Union Douala of Cameroon over the away goal rule.

This is worth the trust imposed in the Women’s team from Ghanaians who have watched the team demolish top oppositions in the local scene. The team until the final group game of the Southern Zone of the Women’s Premier League had gone a run of 13 games scoring 29 goals, conceding 7 and undefeated.

In the Women’s FA Cup, it was a good run and a show of resilience especially a run that started with two penalty shootout victories against Ladystrikers and Police Ladies in the preliminary stage before a 2–0 and 2–1 wins against Northern Ladies and Supreme Ladies FC capping it up with a 2–0 win against Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the final.
