Hasaacas Ladies held onto their position at the top of the Southern Zone in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League after a 1-1 draw against Police Ladies over the weekend.
The Hasmal Ladies came from behind to level the game at the Alajo AstroTurf on Saturday, February 22.
Both teams entered the match eager to claim all three points, following an intense encounter in Takoradi where Police Ladies had taken the win.
Although Police Ladies had a strong start, it was Hasaacas who registered the first shot on target. Veronica Baah Kumah’s close-range effort was saved by the opposition goalkeeper.
Moments later, Police came close, hitting the post after a well-executed attack.
However, it was Police Ladies who broke the deadlock in the 30th minute. Deborah Afriyie capitalized on a rebound from a solid save by Hasaacas goalkeeper Grace Banwaa to give Police the lead.
In the second half, Hasaacas came out much stronger, pressing forward whenever they had the ball.
With just five minutes remaining, Hasaacas were awarded a free kick after Comfort Owusu was fouled near the corner. Substitute Sylvia Osei stepped up and fired a stunning shot into the top corner, earning her team a valuable point.
This result means Hasaacas maintain their record of just one loss in the league this season and have only conceded two goals in 12 matches.
Hasaacas remain at the top with 25 points, while Jonina Ladies climbed to second after their weekend win, pushing Police down to third place.
